About the role

Job Overview: This critical role serves as the vital communications link between public requests for help and a timely response by emergency services. The candidate must be able to work independently in a high-stress environment while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency, non-emergency, and administrative requests for emergency services. These services include but are not limited to fire and emergency medical services (EMS), triggering those requests for service, providing guidance and assistance to the public in life-safety situations, and coordinating appropriate responses to high risk, high-stress operations, with the objective of keeping all participants safe.
Salary Information: The starting salary for the Telecommunicator position is $21.29/hr. Once the employee successfully completes the full training program (average time period is 7-12 months) and is released from probation, hourly pay increases to $22.36/hr. The normal schedule generates 8 hours of built-in overtime per pay period, and provides every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Night shift schedules earn an additional 5% per hour.

Emergency Management Responsibilities: In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
Career Progression: Telecommunicator Trainees that acquire the competencies and minimum qualifications for the next tier will advance to the new tier upon submission of appropriate documentation of qualifications. Additionally, employees in tier 1 trainee positions will be required to complete their initial probationary period successfully to advance to the next tier.
