About the role

Location: Project-Based AssignmentRUIZ is a leading natural gas transmission and distribution Engineering, Inspection, and Survey firm. We support operators that run extensive pipeline networks, compressor stations, meter/regulator stations, gas processing facilities, and fuel gas systems across the East Coast of the US.We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support a maritime repair project. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring welding and repair activities are performed in accordance with applicable specifications, quality standards, and AWS and ABS requirements. This is an on-site position requiring extensive experience in maritime and shipbuilding welding inspection, particularly with aluminum alloys.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct on-site welding inspections and quality monitoring throughout welding and repair activities. Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures, specifications, and applicable AWS and ABS requirements. Review and verify Material Certificates, Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and Welder Qualifications. Monitor welding workmanship and verify compliance with approved welding procedures. Attend and monitor Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and review relevant inspection results. Perform daily quality inspections and maintain accurate inspection records. Prepare and submit weekly inspection and quality reports. Identify and report welding deficiencies, non-conformances, and quality concerns as required. Coordinate with the project team, shipyard personnel, welders, NDT personnel, and other relevant parties to ensure quality requirements are maintained throughout the repair period. Required Qualifications & ExperienceAWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is required. Minimum 10 years of professional welding inspection experience. Extensive hands-on experience with Aluminum 5083, 6061, and 5454 alloys. Previous experience in maritime, shipbuilding, or marine repair welding inspection. Strong working knowledge of applicable AWS and ABS rules, standards, and requirements. Demonstrated experience reviewing welding documentation, including WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, and material certifications. Experience monitoring and coordinating NDT activities. Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and document welding and quality issues. Ability to work effectively in an international, multicultural project environment.
Working Conditions: The position will be based on-site for the duration of the repair project. Due to the nature and schedule of the repair work, the position may require an intensive work schedule of up to 7 days per week and 12 hours per day during critical periods of the project. Candidates should be prepared to work extended hours and weekends as required to support the project schedule.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be an experienced welding inspection professional with a strong background in marine and shipbuilding applications, extensive aluminum welding inspection experience, and a thorough understanding of AWS and ABS requirements.
