Senior Workflow Automation Engineer – Appian/BPMNew York City | Monday–Thursday Onsite | Friday RemoteOur client, a global investment management firm, is seeking a senior Workflow Automation Engineer to design, build and scale its enterprise process automation environment. This is a hands-on individual contributor and application-development role. The successful candidate will work directly with business stakeholders to understand operational processes and build workflow, case-management and business-process applications. The organization currently uses Appian, and prior Appian development experience is strongly preferred. Accomplished developers from comparable enterprise BPM and workflow platforms will also be considered. This is not an infrastructure, system-administration, project-management or RPA-only position.
What You’ll Do:
- Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand operational processes, requirements, exceptions and controls
- Design, build, test and support enterprise workflow and case-management applications
- Convert spreadsheet-, email- and document-driven processes into structured applications
- Develop process models, user interfaces, data objects, business rules, reports and integrations
- Build intake applications, approval workflows, notifications, escalations, SLA monitoring and operational dashboards
- Integrate workflow applications with enterprise systems, databases, APIs and document-management platforms
- Design appropriate application security, role-based access and audit controls
- Create reusable components, development standards and governance practices
- Troubleshoot and enhance existing workflow applications
- Help shape the continued growth of the organization’s automation environment
What We’re Looking For:
- 6+ years of hands-on enterprise application development, workflow engineering, business process management or process-automation experience
- Strong recent development experience with Appian or a comparable enterprise BPM or case-management platform
- Comparable experience may include Pega, IBM BAW/BPM, Camunda, Bizagi, Newgen, Service
- Now App Engine, OutSystems or Microsoft Power Platform
- Power Platform candidates should have experience building model-driven applications with Dataverse, security, business rules and enterprise integrations—not solely basic Power Automate flows
- ServiceNow candidates should have hands-on application-development or App Engine experience—not solely administration, ITSM configuration or infrastructure support
- Experience developing process models, human-task workflows, case lifecycles, user interfaces, data models, business rules, integrations and reports
- Experience building REST/SOAP API integrations and connecting workflow applications with enterprise data sources
- Experience with application security, role-based access, audit requirements and deployment governance
- Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate business processes into technical solutions
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work onsite in Midtown Manhattan Monday through Thursday
- Strongly Preferred
- Hands-on Appian development experience
- Appian Developer or Senior Developer certification
- Experience automating workflows involving operations, finance, legal, tax, compliance, risk, human resources or corporate services
- Experience within financial services, investment management, professional services, enterprise consulting or another complex regulated environmentSQL and enterprise data-integration experience
- Experience with document management, intelligent document processing, RPA or AI-enabled workflow capabilities
- Experience supporting enterprise transformation, systems consolidation or post-merger integration
The Opportunity:
- This role offers significant ownership and direct interaction with business leaders. You will help identify automation opportunities, understand how the underlying business processes operate and build solutions that improve how work moves across the organization.
- Candidates do not need to come directly from investment management. We are interested in technically strong workflow developers who have worked in complex enterprise environments and can learn new business domains.
- Location and Schedule
- This position is based in Midtown Manhattan.
- Monday–Thursday onsite
- Friday remote
- Regular working hours: 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. ETCandidates relocating to the New York area must be available for the onsite schedule from their first day
