Position Summary: Fenco Solutions, a leading metal manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team at our Louisville manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for designing and developing sheet metal products, assemblies, and components while providing hands-on engineering support to manufacturing and production. The ideal candidate combines strong SOLIDWORKS and mechanical design skills with a practical understanding of how products are fabricated, assembled, tested, and supported on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities: Design and develop sheet metal products, assemblies, and components using SOLIDWORKS.Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and manufacturing documentation. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to develop cost-effective, reliable, and manufacturable designs. Design components for sheet metal manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, punching, bending/forming, welding, and assembly. Apply appropriate GD&T, tolerances, material specifications, and manufacturing standards to engineering drawings. Work directly with manufacturing, production, and quality personnel to resolve design, fabrication, assembly, and production issues. Support new product development from concept through prototype, testing, first article, manufacturing release, and production. Review existing products and designs to identify opportunities for cost reduction, improved manufacturability, quality, and product performance. Manage engineering changes and maintain accurate revision control of drawings, BOMs, and product documentation. Participate in design reviews and cross-functional problem-solving activities. Troubleshoot product and manufacturing issues using structured root-cause analysis and implement practical corrective solutions. Work with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to resolve component, material, and fabrication issues. Provide timely technical support to production and quality personnel to minimize manufacturing delays and disruptions. Balance multiple engineering projects, production support needs, and changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.3–5 years of mechanical design or product engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong proficiency with SOLIDWORKS, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings. Experience designing sheet metal parts and assemblies for production. Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), GD&T, tolerances, and engineering drawing standards. Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including laser cutting, punching, bending/forming, welding, and assembly. Experience creating and maintaining bills of materials (BOMs), engineering changes, and revision-controlled documentation. Strong mechanical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with manufacturing, production, quality, suppliers, and other engineering team members. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Ideal Candidate: Hands-on engineer who is comfortable spending time on the manufacturing floor and working directly with production personnel. Strong mechanical designer who considers manufacturability, cost, quality, and assembly requirements during the design process. Proactive problem solver who identifies design or production issues and follows them through resolution. Detail-oriented and disciplined in maintaining accurate drawings, BOMs, specifications, and revision control. Collaborative team member who communicates effectively across engineering, manufacturing, production, quality, and suppliers.
