Deputy City ClerkThe city of Las Vegas invites applications for Deputy City Clerk. This position provides support for the city council; attends various official meetings under the purview of the City Clerk's office and takes notes; prepares and distributes meeting action minutes, minutes and recordings; and coordinates publication and mailing of meeting notices to the public. This is the full journey level class within the Deputy City Clerk series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Supervision Received Receives immediate supervision from the Chief Deputy City Clerk and higher level management staff. Examination Process A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The examination for this recruitment will be a written examination, weighted 100%, and will be used to place candidates on the eligible list. Eligible List You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years. Written Test Date: Monday, November 2, 2026 at 8:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M. Study guides are not available for this particular test. Examination content will be based on the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in this job posting. Applicants who are selected for the written test will be notified by email AFTER the application closing date. Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and all required background checks for the position. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/ or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions. Notice of Typing Certificate Applications submitted without the required typing certificate will be incomplete and not considered. We will accept a 5-minute timed typing certificate of 60 NET words per minute from FreeTypingGame. Net You MUST attach a copy of a typing certificate to this application which demonstrates your ability to type 60 net words per minute. The certificate must be dated no more than 1 (one) year prior to the date of your application for this position. The certificate must show that the test was administered for 5 (five) minutes or more and indicate the (1) gross words per minute, (2) number of errors, and (3) net words per minute Example of Duties
Essential Functions:
- Responds to inquiries from the public, city staff and other governmental agencies in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment; resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Attends and provides support for city meetings as assigned.
- Records, proofreads, edits and finalizes meeting minutes.
- Processes and verifies backup documentation submitted for meetings consistent with statutory compliance.
- Prepares, distributes, and mails documents for meetings and public hearings including correspondence, postcards and Final Action notices.
- Prepares and processes publications for public hearings, bills and ordinances in compliance with Nevada Revised Statutes, Nevada Administrative Code and Las Vegas Municipal Code; coordinates with local newspaper to ensure deadlines are met.
- Prepares monthly reports.
- Occasionally attends off-site and regular meetings during other than normal business hours.
- Performs all related duties in compliance with Nevada Revised Statutes, Nevada Administrative Code and Las Vegas Municipal Code.
- Marginal Functions:
- Administers oaths of office, notarizes documents and collects fees.
- Receives all contract bids, stamps in, maintains log and delivers bids to the Purchasing and Contracts Division.
- Acts as liaison between the Clerk's Office and all departments regarding legal documents and agenda items.
- Assists the public with requests for research of the Clerk's records.
- Assists with city elections as required.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
Two years of responsible secretarial or clerical experience. Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school. License or Certificate: Must type 60 net words per minute as demonstrated by a test certificate dated no more than one year prior to the date of application. Must attend Security Awareness training required by the FBI National Crime Information Center within 30 days of the date of appointment. Possession of an appropriate, valid notary public license within 6 months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment. Techniques of taking and transcribing minutes. Principles and procedures of record keeping. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Principles of numerical and alphabetical filing systems. Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation. Principles and techniques of taking and preparing minutes for official government meetings. Pertinent local and state laws, codes and regulations including municipal election laws and procedures, procurement laws and procedures and the Nevada open meeting and financial disclosure laws.
Skills in: Compiling and maintaining records. Typing at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
Ability to: Learn about city ordinances and applicable municipal codes. Learn to understand the organization and operation of the city, the Clerk's Office and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities. Learn specialized software for assigned responsibilities. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Maintain confidentiality of information. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Plan and organize work to meet scheduled deadlines. Comply with all posting and publication guidelines of the Nevada open meeting law.

CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA LVCEA Compensation and Benefits - 2026 COMPENSATION Annual Base Pay Increases Negotiated as part of the collective bargaining process. Step (Merit) Increase typically awarded on the anniversary date of hire, up to range maximum.

Retirement Benefit eligible employees participate in the Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (PERS). PERS, a statewide defined benefit plan, calculates retirement benefits based on 2.25 percent (current percentage for employees hired 7/1/15 and after)for each year of service, applied to the employee's highest consecutive 36-month average salary. PERS also requires that employees share 50 percent of the PERS contribution, which is implemented by reducing the city's salary ranges. The highest consecutive 36-month average salary is increased commensurate with the salary range reductions required by PERS. Deferred Compensation The city offers a 457(b) Plan which is a government deferred compensation plan similar to a 401(k) plan. It offers both pre-tax and after-tax savings and investment options. Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance Employees are covered the first of the month following date of employment. Five medical plans, two dental, and two vision plans are available. City pays 100% of employee premium + 50% of dependent premium. Life and AD&D Insurance City provides $20,000 insurance at no cost. Additional voluntary life insurance and AD&D insurance available for purchase. Disability Insurance City provides a long term disability policy: LTD: Employees who normally work at least 30 hours/week are eligible. Benefits may begin after 90 days of an approved disability leave. Payment is up to 60% of earnings, up to $11,000/month, and may not be supplemented with sick or vacation.
