About the role

Semicon Bio, Inc. located in San Diego is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate / Senior Research Associate with an understanding of semiconductor behavior and experience in semiconductor materials processing and property evaluations to join our R&D team for feasibility studies of advanced sensors. The successful candidate will assist in the design, development, optimization, and characterization of semiconductors including 2D structured compounds for next-generation biosensing platforms. This role requires hands-on experience with processing of materials to alter the microstructure, surface morphology and physical properties. In-depth knowledge or hands-on experiences in semiconductor thin film processing, as well as characterization of physical and electronic properties are desirable. Exposure to field effect transistor (FET) behavior and related characterizations including microscopy, surface compositional analysis, and I-V curve behavior including output and transfer characteristics will be beneficial. This position offers an opportunity to participate in the development of new novel semiconductor materials and structures suitable for various transistor and bio-detector applications, with intentional manipulation of bulk and surface physical/electrical behavior to enable highly enhanced sensing capabilities. The effort aims for eventual sensor applications for molecular diagnostics, life sciences R&D, and environmental monitoring.
Responsibilities: Process advanced semiconductor thin films (including 2D TMD materials) to optimize their composition and microstructures. Characterize material structures using various microscopy tools to optimize processing and configurations for desirable physical and electronic properties. Participate in the design and construction of wearable sensors and remote sensing circuits. Assemble advanced R&D tooling and microfluidic biosensor platforms.  Required or Preferred QualificationsBS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other related scientific disciplines, desirably with 1+ years of relevant experience. Strong hands-on experience in semiconductor thin film materials.   Experience in electronic device and circuit constructions. Desired Personal Attributes Innovative problem solver with a passion for advancing cutting-edge semiconductor materials and sensor technologies. Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
