Director of Facilities & Engineering (Chief Engineer) Paso Robles, California | On-Site | Direct HireThe Opportunity United Staffing Associates has been engaged by a high-end hospitality property in Paso Robles to identify an experienced Chief Engineer to lead its engineering, maintenance, facilities, grounds, and physical asset operations. The Chief Engineer will ensure the property remains safe, attractive, efficient, compliant, and fully operational. This individual will lead the engineering team, preventive maintenance programs, capital improvements, renovations, vendor relationships, budgeting, safety initiatives, and long-term asset planning while supporting an exceptional guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead engineering, maintenance, facilities, grounds, and building-system operations.
Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate engineering team members.
Oversee the maintenance and repair of guestrooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, pools, spas, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure.
Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs, work orders, equipment inventories, and replacement schedules.
Monitor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, building automation, life-safety, pool, and spa systems.
Prepare and manage operating budgets, capital plans, forecasts, utility expenses, labor costs, and vendor expenditures.
Plan and oversee renovations, construction, infrastructure upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, bids, schedules, budgets, and contractor performance.
Coordinate projects while minimizing disruption to property operations and guests.
Select and manage contractors, consultants, suppliers, and service providers.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, building codes, fire and life-safety requirements, environmental standards, and other applicable regulations.
Maintain emergency plans, inspection records, permits, warranties, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
Identify opportunities to control costs, improve system reliability, conserve energy, and support sustainable operations.
Collaborate with property leadership and department managers to address facility needs and maintain high service standards.
Provide reports, project updates, financial recommendations, and long-term asset plans to leadership.
Required Qualifications:
At least five years of progressive leadership experience in engineering, facilities management, property operations, or a comparable environment.
Experience managing a large hospitality, commercial, residential, or multi-building property.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, building automation, life-safety, pool, and spa systems.
Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and physical assets.
Experience overseeing renovations, construction, infrastructure improvements, or major capital projects.
Financial knowledge involving operating and capital budgets, forecasting, cost control, and reporting.
Proven ability to lead employees, manage vendors, and coordinate multiple projects and priorities.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, specifications, and engineering drawings.
Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and changing operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Property Management, or a related field.
Relevant engineering, trade, facilities, pool operations, or safety certification.
Experience with property or facility-management software.
Knowledge of energy-management practices and sustainability programs.
Experience supporting new construction or large-scale renovation projects.
Compensation & Benefits:
