Bus Driver Position No experience necessary - will train with pay $24.60 per hour starting salary upon receiving CDL/permits Westchester routes 15-20 per week Paid sick days Responsibilities of Bus Drivers It is the responsibility of the bus drivers to provide transportation to and from school in a safe, controlled and friendly environment for the students. Maintain state mandated vehicle safety checklists - checked before each daily run. Report any unsafe conditions to the Transportation Coordinator immediately. Make bus runs as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator. Alternate routes are not to be used except for emergency or unsafe road conditions. Alternate routes used should be communicated to the Transportation Coordinator. Write-up students for discipline and safety violations. Write-ups should be made via the electronic disciplinary form in a timely manner. Incident button should be used whenever possible to assist Transportation Coordinator in providing Principal supporting video footage. Act as a substitute bus driver when needed. Fuel the bus as needed. Clean and sanitize interiors of the bus daily. Follow posted traffic laws - adjust speed and braking according to environment and road conditions. Ensure student safety. Do not leave a child at a designated drop area if you observe a suspicious individual or vehicle in the area. At the end of every route, work shift, or work day, the bus driver will conduct a post-trip inspection to ensure that the driver is the last person leaving the bus and that no passenger is left behind or remains on the vehicle. The driver will: Turn off the bus and activate the child reminder system. Walk to the back of the bus checking each seat to ensure that all passengers have exited. Disengage the child reminder system. Remove the keys from the bus. Once it is determined that the bus has no remaining passengers, the driver may exit and secure the bus. Use bus radios for the following purposes: Unusual traffic or weather conditions that may affect other drivers Bus mechanical problems Bus accidents - See procedures listed below Student discipline problems or safety problems. Any other circumstance that requires communication to the base radio. As a general rule - When in doubt-call it in. Fill out time sheets on a daily basis and turn them into the Transportation Coordinator every pay period. Attend safety meetings as required. Ensure all certificates and licenses needed to driver a school bus with students on board are in good standing. Report all bus maintenance needs to bus maintenance via the approved bus maintenance request form. Notify Transportation Coordinator if repairs are not made timely.
Note:
The standard school year workday for bus drivers shall consist of a three (3) hour minimum as scheduled by the Transportation Coordinator. The starting and ending time shall also be established by the Transportation Coordinator. Minimum hours for mid-day trips are one (1) hour unless previously agreed upon with the Transportation Coordinator. Summer hours are not guaranteed.
