About the role

If you would like to change the world for an adult learner by helping them improve their reading, writing and conversational English skills please join us for a Volunteer Orientation to learn about becoming an ESOL or Basic Reading Tutor. No teaching experience is required, but volunteer tutors must have a High School diploma, attend an orientation session and complete our 18-hour training. They should also be patient and sensitive to the needs of adult learners. Tutors meet with students 2 hours per week, and we ask for a one-year commitment. Orientations & Trainings We have orientation sessions scheduled at the library nearly every month. Our next one will be September 2, 2026. Potential volunteers who have attended an orientation are eligible to enroll in our LV Tutor Training. The next LV Tutor Training will be held in person at the library, beginning Saturday September 19th. Feel free to call the office for details (781-769-4599.)
