About the Role:
Our client is actively seeking an innovative Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to join their research and development team in George. This role is pivotal in the design, development, and optimization of novel drug delivery systems and dosage forms for both new chemical entities and existing products. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including analytical, process development, and clinical research, to advance drug candidates from preclinical stages through to commercialization. The successful candidate will possess a strong scientific background in pharmaceutics and a passion for bringing life-changing medicines to patients, contributing to a forward‑thinking research environment dedicated to improving therapeutic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop various pharmaceutical dosage forms, including oral solids, liquids, semi‑solids, and sterile preparations.
Conduct pre‑formulation studies, excipient compatibility testing, and stability studies.
Optimize formulations for improved bioavailability, stability, and manufacturability.
Develop and execute experimental plans using laboratory‑scale equipment and pilot plant facilities.
Collaborate with analytical teams to develop and validate analytical methods for formulation characterization.
Prepare technical reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and present findings to internal stakeholders.
Requirements:
Ph. D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
In‑depth knowledge of drug delivery systems, excipients, and dosage form design principles.
Experience with common pharmaceutical laboratory equipment and techniques (e.g., granulation, tablet compression, encapsulation, dissolution testing).
Familiarity with regulatory guidelines relevant to drug development (e.g., FDA, EMA).
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
