INTRODUCTIONMi Casa Resource Center is seeking volunteers to help members of our community build their language skills in our English as a Second Language (ESL) course. English as a Second Language (ESL) is a twelve-week course designed to help non-native English speakers build the confidence and fluency they need to communicate effectively in academic, professional, and social settings. Classes are in person, with levels one, two, and three offered concurrently. PROJECT DETAILSESL instructors work as a team with the help of teaching assistants to provide a mix of large-group instruction, small-group support, and one-on-one tutoring. All curriculum and materials are provided by the organization. In an adult ESL (English as a Second Language) class, a teacher assistant plays a crucial role in supporting both the instructor and learners, who often come from diverse backgrounds and have varying levels of proficiency.
Responsibilities include:
Administrative tasks like attendance tracking and organizing student work. Helping prepare and distribute learning materials. Assisting with technology, such as using online learning platforms or presentations. Providing one-on-one and small group support. Maintaining a conducive classroom environment. SESSION AND CLASS DETAILSESL Fall Session August 26th to November 11th, Wednesdays 5:30 PM to 7:00 PMAugust 27th to November 12th, Thursdays, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PMQUALIFICATION AND COMMITMENT DETAILSTeaching experience is preferred, and instructors should be able to engage respectfully and warmly with adult students from a multicultural background. Spanish-language skills are highly useful. Teacher assistants will be asked to commit to serving at one class consistently per week for most weeks of the session. Notice can be given for travel or other planned commitments.
