Principal Backend Software Engineer

Overview In this role, you drive end-to-end backend architecture and delivery, solving complex design challenges that scale across teams. You will partner across engineering to standardize practices and mentor engineers, shaping robust systems. Compensation / Benefitshealth and wellbeing resourcespaid volunteer dayswide range of perks and benefitsengagement with local communityequitable and transparent compensation philosophy Responsibilities Unblock challenges across the software development lifecycle from design to launch Create reusable solutions for multiple teams and products; plan large-scale initiatives Tackle complex architectural problems and apply standards to new projects Lead code reviews, documentation, and high-risk bug fixes Set the standard for meaningful code reviews and collaborate on company-wide projects Transfer deep knowledge across languages to excel as a software engineer Mentor junior engineers Key requirements 10+ years in senior tech/leadership roles with end-to-end lifecycle ownership Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (preferred)Expertise in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala Hands-on experience with public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and SaaS/PaaS/IaaS understanding Ability to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space, and time Mentoring experience and ability to influence decisions Consideration of customer impact in technical decisions Desirable: Developer Experience/Developer Productivity focus; Java or NodeJS proficiency; CI/CD experience Mentoring and coaching Influencing decisions across teams Cross-functional collaboration Java Python Kotlin
