About the role

Fedsprout is a consulting and training firm that helps organizations secure and manage government funding. We’re looking for a senior, part-time Marketing Strategist to help shape our next stage of growth. One area we’re focused on is expanding our work with utilities, particularly electric cooperatives. Fedsprout supports organizations across the grant lifecycle: developing competitive proposals, managing awards and compliance, and training teams to navigate funding programs. We’ve supported electric cooperatives across different states, and we’re looking to build on that experience with a clear, practical marketing strategy. We also serve startups, universities, and economic development organizations, including companies pursuing SBIR/STTR funding.
The role: This is a strategy and advisory role. You’ll help define where Fedsprout should focus, how we explain our value to different audiences, and which marketing activities are most likely to support growth. You’ll develop a practical roadmap that our small team and outside partners can carry out.
The work will include:
  • Refining Fedsprout’s positioning and messaging across our service lines
  • Developing a focused marketing strategy for utilities and electric cooperatives, as well as our startup and ecosystem audiences
  • Advising on how to package and promote proposal writing, award management, and training services
  • Supporting rebranding activities and helping carry the updated brand across Fedsprout’s messaging, website, and marketing materials
  • Identifying the channels and partnerships that can reach utility decision-makers, including industry associations, conferences, trade publications, webinars, and LinkedInSetting realistic priorities, timelines, budgets, and measures of progress
  • Guiding the strategic direction of a website redesign
  • Recommending practical ways AI tools can support a small marketing team
  • Who we’re looking for
You have senior-level experience in marketing, brand strategy, or growth strategy, and you understand how to market consulting or other professional services where trust and expertise matter. You can translate specialized services into clear benefits for business and utility audiences, and you know how to turn a strategy into a realistic plan for a small organization. Experience with utilities, electric cooperatives, energy, government funding, or association marketing would be especially useful. We’re also interested in people who have helped a consulting firm grow beyond referrals and build a more consistent source of new business. Engagement details Independent contractor, long-term engagement Remote, with flexible scheduling Up to 10 hours per week Hourly compensation based on experience Target start: as soon as possible, and no later than Q1 2027
