Surgical Technician — Travel Contract

Location: Los Angeles, California Employment Type: Travel Contract Assignment Length: 8 Weeks Schedule: 3 x 12 Hours Shift: Days Start Date: ASAPPosition Overview NuWest is seeking an experienced Surgical Technician for a travel contract opportunity in Los Angeles, California. In this role, you will scrub and circulate across a broad range of surgical specialties in a high-acuity Level I Trauma operating room serving a large, diverse metropolitan patient population. The ideal candidate brings multi-specialty OR experience, expert knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile technique, and the adaptability to anticipate team needs across both complex and routine procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Scrub and assist during surgical procedures across multiple specialties including Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Vascular, Podiatry, Thoracic, and General Surgery
  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field, ensuring strict adherence to aseptic and sterile technique throughout all procedures
  • Select, set up, and pass surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies in anticipation of surgeon needs
  • Circulate during procedures as needed, supporting the surgical team and maintaining accurate instrument and sponge counts
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation in accordance with surgical and safety protocols
  • Inspect and troubleshoot surgical instruments and equipment prior to and during procedures to ensure proper function
  • Maintain efficient OR workflow by coordinating with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing staff to support smooth case turnover
  • Adhere to all operating room safety, infection control, and regulatory standards to ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative process
Required Qualifications:
  • Active Surgical Technician (ST) certification
  • Minimum 1 year of recent surgical technician experience in a Level I Trauma institution in a metropolitan setting serving a diverse patient population, including experience across multiple surgical specialties
  • Successful completion of formal training in the perioperative environment
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Current MAB or CPI certificationLA City Fire and Life Safety card (must be LA City)LA County Employee Health Clearance must be completed prior to assignment start date
  • Must be fully committed to completing an 8-week assignment
  • Must be able to pass required background checks and drug screening
