About the role

Job Description: We are seeking an R&D Technician – Materials Test Laboratory to support research, development, innovation, and customer projects. The technician will perform qualitative and quantitative testing, operate and calibrate laboratory equipment, analyze test data, and communicate findings to project stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a technical or manufacturing background, strong mechanical aptitude, basic computer/Excel skills, and the ability to work comfortably in laboratory, pilot-plant, and production environments. Initial training will be provided under direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests. Operate and calibrate laboratory and testing equipment safely. Learn and apply new testing methods to support materials science and R&D projects. Compile, organize, and analyze test data using Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets. Prepare reports and communicate test results and findings to project requesters. Collaborate with team members on larger testing and development projects. Follow established testing procedures and safety requirements. Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment. Support testing activities in laboratory, pilot-plant, and production environments.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma required. Associate Degree or technical training preferred.0–2+ years of experience in laboratory testing, manufacturing, or a related technical environment. Ability to operate and calibrate laboratory or testing equipment. Basic computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and document test results. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Strong mechanical aptitude and technical curiosity. Ability to work independently with appropriate direction. Ability to safely lift and carry samples weighing up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in paper, paperboard, packaging, or related manufacturing industries. Familiarity with papermaking or paperboard products. Experience with materials testing or product testing. Experience with machine, mechanical, or equipment testing. Experience with laboratory equipment calibration. Technical training or an Associate Degree.
