Senior AI Software Developer Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior AI Software Developer to support a government customer focused on modernizing and advancing national air traffic management systems through next-generation automation, cloud, and AI-enabled technologies. This position is hybrid, requiring 3 days onsite and 2 days remote, in Gaithersburg, MD or Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The Senior AI Software Developer will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and modernizing mission-critical microservices-based software solutions within a large Agile/SAFe environment. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact the reliability and performance of systems supporting millions of air travelers across the United States while leveraging modern AI-assisted development practices. Responsibilities of the Senior AI Software Developer include: Lead Agile sprint planning and technical execution, ensuring team priorities, deliverables, and project objectives remain aligned. Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices-based applications using modern software engineering best practices. Collaborate with systems engineering, product owners, architects, DevSecOps, and QA teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. Develop and integrate APIs, databases, messaging systems, and event-driven services within distributed environments. Utilize AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, software quality, debugging, testing, and system reliability. Develop clean, maintainable, and testable code following CI/CD and DevSecOps practices. Implement automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing. Core qualifications for the Senior AI Software Developer include: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).8+ years of experience developing and supporting enterprise software applications and distributed systems. Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, or similar, within a Linux-based environment. Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code), automation, or intelligent platforms. Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and modern software development best practices. Experience working in Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust. Compensation for the Senior AI Software Developer includes: Salary Range: $100,000-$180,000, depending on experience.
