POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) serves as the Company's strategic leader for enterprise-wide environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance programs. This position is responsible for developing and executing an integrated EHS and operational risk strategy that protects associates, customers, assets, and brand reputation while supporting operational excellence and business growth. The role partners closely with Store Operations, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Legal, Facilities, Asset Protection, and Risk Management leadership to reduce workplace injuries, customer incidents, environmental exposures, and operational risks across the enterprise. The Senior Director is responsible for driving a culture of safety and accountability, leveraging data analytics and technology to identify emerging risks, improving regulatory compliance, and reducing the Company's total cost of risk. This position serves as the Company's senior EHS advisor and provides strategic guidance on environmental compliance, occupational safety, business resilience, emergency preparedness, claims reduction, and emerging regulatory requirements across stores, distribution centers, transportation operations, and corporate facilities. RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Risk Management Serve as the Company's principal subject matter expert and advisor on environmental, health, safety, operational risk, and regulatory compliance matters. Develop and execute a multi-year enterprise EHS strategy aligned with the Company's operational and financial objectives. Establish enterprise-wide EHS goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and leading risk indicators that drive accountability and continuous improvement. Partner with executive leadership to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, regulatory, environmental, and reputational risks. Develop and execute strategies that reduce Total Cost of Risk (TCOR), including Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, and property-related exposures. Monitor industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory developments and recommend appropriate business responses. Safety Culture & Operational Excellence Lead enterprise initiatives that strengthen a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline. Partner with Store Operations and Supply Chain leadership to integrate safety into daily operating practices and performance expectations. Develop and implement programs that reduce associate and customer injury frequency and severity. Drive behavioral-based safety, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), and continuous improvement methodologies throughout the organization. Establish enterprise standards and best practices to improve safety performance and operational consistency. Claims Reduction & Risk Analytics Analyze claims, operational, staffing, and business data to identify trends, root causes, and emerging risks. Develop strategies targeting locations, operational practices, and risk factors contributing to Workers' Compensation and General Liability claims. Utilize predictive analytics and leading indicators to proactively identify and address risk exposures before losses occur. Develop executive dashboards, scorecards, and reporting tools that provide actionable insight into safety, claims, and compliance performance. Translate complex data into business-focused recommendations for executive and operational leadership. Regulatory Compliance & Governance Ensure enterprise compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, environmental, transportation, hazardous materials, and workplace safety requirements. Direct environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste management, spill prevention, recycling, and waste reduction initiatives. Lead internal audits, facility assessments, regulatory inspections, and corrective action programs. Partner with Legal and Human Resources on regulatory issues, investigations, andcompliance matters. Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors. Supply Chain, Distribution & Transportation Safety Partner with Supply Chain leadership to develop risk-reduction strategies across distribution centers, cross-dock operations, transportation, and fleet activities. Establish programs addressing material handling, powered industrial equipment, ergonomics, loading dock operations, pedestrian safety, and transportation-related exposures. Support operational growth initiatives by ensuring EHS risks are appropriately identified and mitigated. Safety Technology & Digital Transformation Evaluate and implement EHS technologies, incident management systems, mobile inspection platforms, and risk management tools. Drive digital transformation initiatives that improve visibility, efficiency, compliance, and field engagement. Leverage technology and business intelligence systems to improve risk identification, trend analysis, and corrective action management. Emergency Preparedness, Crisis Management & Business Resilience Lead enterprise emergency preparedness, crisis response, and business resilience initiatives. Oversee fire protection, life safety, emergency action plans, and disaster recovery preparedness. Participate as a key member of the Company's crisis management and business continuity teams. Lead significant incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented. Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability Support environmental sustainability initiatives related to waste reduction, recycling, environmental compliance, and resource conservation. Partner with Facilities and Supply Chain teams to achieve environmental performance objectives. Monitor evolving environmental regulations and sustainability requirements impacting Company operations. Leadership & Talent Development Build, lead, and develop a high-performing EHS organization through coaching, development planning, and succession management. Foster cross-functional collaboration and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels. Develop enterprise training strategies that build EHS competency and accountability. Effectively manage consultants, insurance carrier resources, brokers, and third-party service providers. Support strategic Risk Management initiatives as assigned. REQUIREMENTSMinimum 8-10 years of progressively responsible EHS leadership experience in multi-site operations. Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Retail, distribution, logistics, transportation, or other large-scale operational experience strongly preferred. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or equivalent professional certification preferred. Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide programs that reduce injury frequency, claims severity, and overall cost of risk. Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, hazardous waste regulations, transportation safety requirements, and industry best practices. Experience leading regulatory inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective action programs. Advanced analytical skills with demonstrated ability to leverage operational and claims data to drive risk reduction decisions. Experience utilizing risk management information systems (RMIS), business intelligence platforms, incident management software, and data visualization tools. Proven ability to influence executive leadership and drive organizational change in a matrixed environment. Experience presenting business, risk, and compliance strategies to senior leadership. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality. Ability to travel as needed to support stores, distribution centers, transportation operations, and strategic initiatives.
