Founding Designer
parameterMillbrae, CA
About the role
Parameter builds AI agents that do offensive security work. Our agents run autonomous penetration tests against production applications and cloud environments, finding IDORs, broken access control, XSS, and infrastructure misconfigurations that scanners miss and that human pentest firms only look for once or twice a year.
We are not a theoretical security company. Our team has responsibly disclosed real, high-severity vulnerabilities to well-known technology companies, and our findings are the front door to most of our customer relationships.
You'll be our first designer, which means there is no design team to join and no system to inherit. You'll own how Parameter looks and works everywhere: the web application customers review findings in, the reports that land in a CISO's inbox, the marketing site, and the brand underneath all of it.
Security tooling has a reputation for dense, hostile interfaces. Ours has to show an autonomous agent's work clearly enough that an engineer trusts a finding and a security lead can act on it. That is a hard design problem, and it is the job.
The title points at where you'll spend most of your time. Expect the rest of the week to go wherever the work is: agent systems one day, the product the next, a customer call or a report that has to go out after that. We are small enough that everyone works across every product, and we hire people who want that.
What you'll do:
Own product design for the Parameter web application, from engagement scoping to findings review to remediation workflows
Design interfaces for reviewing agent runs: replayable attack traces, evidence chains, and the moment a user decides whether to trust a finding
Build and maintain the design system in Figma and in code, so engineers can ship consistent UI without waiting on you
Own the brand across the website, reports, launches, events, and the occasional piece of merch
Sit in on customer calls, watch people use the product, and turn what you see into the next thing we ship
What we're looking for:
4+ years designing software products, with a portfolio that shows shipped work and the reasoning behind it
Range across product and brand. You can design a data-dense table on Monday and a launch page on Friday
Comfort with complex UI: tables, timelines, diff views, nested detail states, and empty, loading, and error states that are actually designed
You work close to code. You can read the frontend, prototype in it, or ship CSS changes yourself
Strong opinions, loosely held, and the ability to defend a decision to engineers and customers
Bonus:
designed for developer tools, infrastructure, or security products, or were an early design hire before
Interview process:
Intro call with a founder (30 minutes)
Portfolio walkthrough with the team (60 minutes)
Paid work trial, scoped to roughly one day
Onsite in San Francisco with the team
References and offer
Stack Figma, React, Next.js, Tailwind, Linear
We move quickly. Our target is an offer within two weeks of first contact. Small team, high trust, extremely fast. If you want to see your work in front of customers within days, this is that.
This role is onsite in San Francisco. You must be authorized to work in the US; we are not able to sponsor visas at this time.
