Position Purpose: As the General Manager, you will lead the overall success of a Travel Plaza by driving revenue growth, profitability, operational excellence, and exceptional guest experiences. This role is more than managing a retail operation. You will play a critical role in supporting economic development within the region by creating jobs, developing talent, increasing commerce, and ensuring the Travel Plaza remains a destination that serves both local residents and travelers. Success in this position will be measured by your ability to increase sales, maximize profitability, develop high-performing teams, maintain operational standards, and contribute to the continued growth and economic impact of the Choctaw Nation's retail operations. Reporting directly to the Director of Retail Operations, you will be accountable for business performance across fuel, tobacco, food service, grocery, gift shop, and other retail operations while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for guests and associates.
Key Performance Responsibilities
Drive Business Growth & Economic Impact:
  • Increase sales, guest traffic, and profitability through strategic planning, execution of promotional initiatives, and responsiveness to market conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to grow revenue streams while maintaining competitive positioning within the marketplace.
  • Contribute to the economic vitality of the community by creating employment opportunities, developing local talent, and delivering a travel experience that attracts visitors to the area.
  • Achieve or exceed established financial goals, budgets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).Deliver Financial Performance
  • Maintain full accountability for profit and loss performance, operating budgets, labor management, inventory investment, and expense control.
  • Analyze sales trends, product movement, labor utilization, shrinkage, cash variances, and other financial metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and sustained growth.
  • Implement pricing strategies and merchandising initiatives that maximize margins while delivering value to guests.
Lead and Develop High-Performing Teams: Recruit, develop, coach, and retain talented associates who are committed to operational excellence and superior guest service. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Ensure associates receive ongoing training in operational procedures, food safety standards, guest service expectations, and leadership development.
Ensure Operational Excellence: Maintain inventory levels that support sales demand while minimizing outages and excess inventory. Ensure all operational, compliance, financial, and administrative reporting is completed accurately and on time. Consistently meet or exceed established standards for cleanliness, food safety, merchandising, safety, security, and facility appearance.
Create Exceptional Guest Experiences: Lead by example in delivering outstanding service and creating a welcoming environment for every guest. Monitor guest satisfaction and implement improvements that strengthen loyalty and repeat business. Ensure consistency in guest experience across all areas of the operation.
Maintain Facility and Asset Performance: Oversee maintenance, repairs, equipment functionality, security systems, and facility upkeep to ensure uninterrupted operations. Proactively identify and resolve issues that impact safety, operational efficiency, or guest experience. Maintain hands-on involvement in facility presentation, cleanliness, and sanitation standards.
Collaborate Across Operations:
  • Partner with General Managers, Directors, and support teams to share best practices and drive consistent operational excellence across all Travel Plaza locations.
  • Support organizational initiatives that further the growth, success, and economic impact of Choctaw Nation retail operations.
  • Qualifications for Success
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of retail, food service, convenience store, or hospitality management experience with responsibility for financial performance and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in driving sales growth, controlling expenses, and achieving operational goals.
  • Strong coaching, leadership, and talent development skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial and operational data and translate insights into measurable results.
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, inventory management tools, back-office applications, and related software.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules and provide leadership support as needed.
