Company Description: Technica Editorial is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Freelance Editorial Assistant to join our team. This role supports our editorial peer review staff by ensuring a smooth, efficient intake process for the wide variety of academic journals we manage. The main duties will include checking manuscripts before they go to peer review as well as assisting our editorial staff as needed. Our clients include leading scientific and academic publishers. The ideal candidate should be interested in learning about the publication process. Candidates should be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, treat clients and colleagues professionally, and work equally well as a member of the administrative team or independently in a deadline-oriented environment. The hours will total 20-25 hours/week, between 9 am and 5 pm EST.Technica Editorial provides editorial production and peer review support, training, and consultation to publishing partners in the scientific/scholarly community. Technica Editorial has a unique understanding of the complete editorial management process, from manuscript submission to print and electronic publication of books, journals, and magazines. Our offices are located in the lovely town of Carrboro, North Carolina — within strolling distance of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Role Description: The Editorial Assistant for Manuscript Admin - Contract role is a remote, contract position focused on supporting the editorial and production process for manuscripts. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing manuscript submissions, updating and maintaining tracking systems, and communicating with authors, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth workflows. The role involves performing preliminary checks on manuscripts, verifying completeness of files and metadata, and preparing documents for editorial review and production. The Editorial Assistant will also assist with text editing and proofreading tasks as assigned, follow established style and formatting guidelines, and help with resolving basic queries or issues related to manuscript status and documentation.
Qualifications: Strong editorial skills, including experience with Editorial work. Proficiency in Text Editing and Proofreading with attention to detail and consistency. Effective Communication skills for interacting with authors, editors, and internal teams. Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with manuscript management systems or online submission platforms is beneficial. Comfort with digital tools such as word processing software, shared documents, and project management platforms. Relevant education or experience in publishing, communications, English, or a related field is preferred.
