Tax Preparer

Job Duties: Interview clients to gather the financial information and documentation needed to prepare accurate tax returns. Prepare individual, corporate, and partnership income tax returns in accordance with applicable tax laws and firm procedures. Enter and review tax information, verify trial balances, and prepare supporting workpapers. Compare current-year tax returns with prior-year returns to identify discrepancies, unusual items, and potential errors. Prepare draft tax returns, reconcile information against original documentation, and submit completed returns to the Tax Manager for review. Prepare and distribute tax organizers, communicate with clients regarding missing information or unusual tax matters, and monitor the status of client engagements. Research tax issues using professional tax resources and assist in resolving questions or notices received from federal, state, and local tax authorities. Identify potential tax-planning opportunities and refer appropriate matters to senior tax professionals and the high-net-worth client team. Print, assemble, and organize tax returns and maintain accurate records of client documents, correspondence, and filings. Prepare weekly client status updates, work plans, and individual performance reports. Develop and maintain spreadsheets for tax preparation, accounting analysis, and special projects. Maintain and update internal tax manuals, procedures, and documentation as needed. Assist in supervising and training junior tax preparers, bookkeepers, and data-entry personnel working on assigned client engagements. Coordinate with team members to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and ensure timely completion of tax engagements. Perform other related duties as assigned by firm management.
