Investment Profile Seed-stage company in Seattle building an AI-powered medical group and insurance-administration platform for employer healthcare. The company is connecting medical records, claims, and ongoing patient interactions to help people get better care at a lower cost. Its engineering team will build the systems that support both the administration of healthcare benefits and the delivery of care. The founders combine experience building technology companies through two public offerings with clinical expertise and experience scaling healthcare businesses.
Summary:
We’re looking for a highly technical engineering leader ready to own an engineering function. Strong candidates may be Engineering Managers leading small teams who remain hands-on in backend, infrastructure, platform, or AI systems. You should already have responsibility for hiring, performance management, and difficult personnel decisions. You’ll own technical direction, delivery, hiring, and team performance from the start. For the first 6–12 months, expect substantial personal implementation: architecting core systems, using AI tools to generate production code, reviewing implementation details, debugging issues, and shipping alongside the team. The challenge is making claims processing, clinical workflows, patient applications, and shared data infrastructure work together securely and reliably. Decisions in one system affect how people work across the business. You’ll need to understand those relationships well enough to decide what to build, what to automate, and where human judgment belongs. You’ll report directly to the founding CEO and work together on product priorities, organizational decisions, and company strategy. Weekly one-on-one time provides an opportunity to develop your leadership and judgment alongside someone who has built companies through multiple stages of growth. This role is based in Seattle and requires working in person. Candidates willing to relocate are welcome. What You’ll OwnArchitecture and implementation of the company’s first products and infrastructure Connected systems for claims processing, clinical operations, member engagement, and shared data Practical use of frontier AI development tools, with accountability for the quality, security, and reliability of the resulting code Engineering execution, delivery, and an agreed-upon budget Hiring, coaching, performance management, and development of the engineering team Product priorities and measurable business outcomes, in partnership with the founders and clinical and business leaders Engineering practices that create clear ownership and help the team move quickly Broader opportunities to use AI automation across the company’s operations Many early users will be colleagues in clinical, operations, and sales roles. You’ll work directly with them to understand their problems, observe how the software performs, and improve what gets built.
What We’re Looking For: You likely have experience:
- Building backend, infrastructure, platform, distributed, or AI systems and remaining directly involved in production implementation
- Shipping 0-to-1 products or major capabilities that customers use and value
- Using modern AI coding tools to produce reliable production software, with the technical judgment to review, debug, and improve itLeading highly technical engineering teams, including hiring and performance decisions
- Making consequential architecture and product decisions when requirements are incomplete
- Translating customer and business problems into useful product designs
- Building secure, reliable systems that handle complex data and integrations
Taking responsibility for results and changing course when the evidence calls for itHealthcare, insurance, clinical workflow, or regulated-data experience is useful, but it isn’t required. You do need the curiosity and commitment to learn how healthcare works and understand the consequences of the systems you build.
Prior startup experience is a strong plus.
We’re less interested in titles than in technical credibility, judgment, ownership, and the ability to build a team that makes good decisions without depending on you for every answer.
The culture values direct debate, clear decisions, and practical execution. Engineers are expected to understand the business, stay close to users, and measure their work by outcomes. Seniority comes with responsibility to do difficult work.
