Payroll Manager New York Law School (NYLS), located in the heart of Tribeca, seeks a Payroll Manager to oversee the daily operations of the payroll area within the Accounting Department. This role is responsible for the complete preparation and transmittal of multiple payrolls via our third-party payroll provider, maintaining payroll records, and serving as a key point of contact for employee payroll inquiries. Reporting directly to the Associate Controller, the Payroll Manager will also assist with broader accounting operations and department initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Payroll & Operations Management Prepare and transmit multi-frequency payrolls through the third-party payroll provider. Update payroll files with tax changes, personnel updates, voluntary deductions, and new hires; accurately process and calculate a high volume of timecards and timesheets. Manage student and support timesheets, timecard distribution, and paycheck distributions. Oversee payroll record maintenance, annual file setups, archiving post-audit files, and the preparation, approval, and distribution of W-2s. Report on DC37 Union dues and manage related compliance tasks. Accounting & Compliance Prepare and post payroll labor distribution entries to the general ledger. Collaborate directly with the payroll vendor to resolve payroll processing and payroll tax issues. Assist external auditors by preparing required schedules, answering inquiries, and fulfilling year-end audit requests. Assist with IRS Form 990 tax filings. Serve as an operational back-up for Accounts Payable and assist with general day-to-day accounting department operations and special projects as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred. Minimum of seven years of hands-on payroll processing experience. Prior supervisory experience is required Experience in higher education accounting is a plus. Proficient with Banner or similar financial information system (required).Strong working knowledge of payroll tax codes and regulations. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel required).Strong technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong customer service orientation, and close attention to detail. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and solve complex tasks.
Compensation:
This position offers an annual salary range of $100,000 to $115,000. Compensation includes a competitive benefits package.
