Bus DriverThe Elgin School District is looking for a bus driver for the 2026-2027 school year. The Elgin SD is located in Union County, Oregon in the town of Elgin. We serve a small community grades PreK-12.
Salary Details:
Hourly Rate: $20.17-$31.28 - Dependent on experience Route Rate: $41.00 per route (If total route time for day exceeds 2 hours, employee will receive an additional $20.00 for that day) Mileage Rate: $.55 per mile Wait Time Rate: $20.17 per hour Contract Days: 166 days - 4 days per week - hours vary Start Date: August 18, 2026JOB TITLE: BUS DRIVERDEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATIONCLASSIFICATION: CLASSIFIEDGeneral Duties Operate District vehicles of various sizes for the purpose of safely transporting students or supporting District programs. Follow procedures to ensure that vehicles are safe to drive.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Hold a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a valid Oregon School Bus Driver's Certificate or be able to obtain both
- Successfully pass fingerprint and background check
- Pass a pre-employment drug test
- SkillsProficient oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and collaborate solutions to concerns
- Ability and willingness to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes with students, parents, staff and administration
- Ability to maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons
- Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
- Physical ability to perform required work
- Be able to work independently and without close supervision
- Work well with and enjoy the company of students
- Ability to meet with and deal effectively with the public
- Demonstrate an aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities

- Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
- Annually pass the required online trainings by the District's assigned due date
- Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences
- Utilize the District's electronic systems and applications related to the job
- Transport children to and from school/activities in a safe manner
- Verify that students who are on their bus are on the correct bus
- Confer with transportation supervisor when mechanical or safety problems arise
- Obey all traffic laws
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure proper vehicle operating conditions
- Ensure safety of all students
- Discipline children when required to maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Communicate discipline issues to the transportation supervisor and/or principal
- Develop and maintain vehicle evacuation plans and perform drills with students
- Assist students with getting on or off the bus when required
- Immediately report accidents to transportation supervisor
- Clean District vehicles both inside and outside
- Pass random drug tests
- Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization

Working Conditions:
The District operates within a 4 day workweek. The typical school year runs mid-August through the first part of June. The typical workweek is Monday Thursday.
This position involves driving bus/vehicle in all weather conditions.
The person in this position could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of his/her duties.
The person in this position may be exposed to inappropriate student and/or adult behavior.
Salary to be established by the Oregon School Employees Association Elgin Chapter 60 negotiated agreement with the Elgin School District Board of Directors. Schedule and assignments to be established by the Transportation Director.
