Java Software Applications Development Lead

Overview As Java Software Applications Development Lead, you will drive backend system design and delivery using Java, Spring, and microservices. You will architect scalable, reliable solutions and guide data access across Oracle and MongoDB in high-performance environments. You’ll mentor developers, promote TDD and code quality, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features. You will also lead containerization, CI/CD automation, and deployment practices to ensure high availability. This role combines technical leadership with a focus on delivering robust, scalable banking software at Citi. Compensation / Benefitsmedical, dental & vision coverage 401(k)life insurancedisability insurancewellness programspaid time off Responsibilities Lead design and development of complex backend systems using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud Architect and implement microservices with emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance Guide integration and optimization of Oracle and MongoDB in high-performance settings Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous improvement Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver features Apply TDD and test-first practices across development stages Implement data access layers with Hibernate and JPA; manage caching with Redis or equivalents Ensure code quality through reviews, static analysis, and performance tuning Design and manage Open Shift and Kubernetes container orchestration; develop Helm charts Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines with deployment automation tools like Harness Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployments Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high availability Enforce best practices for Kubernetes manifests (health checks, PDBs, graceful termination)Contribute to logging, monitoring, and tracing strategies for distributed apps Assess risk in business decisions and ensure compliance with laws, rules, and Citi policies Key requirements 6+ years of software development experience with strong Java focus Expert-level knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud Expert-level understanding of Microservices Architecture and best practices Expert-level proficiency with Hibernate, JPA, Oracle, and MongoDBStrong experience in application performance, monitoring, and optimization Proven ability to lead and resolve complex development challenges Experience with Docker and container orchestration (Open Shift and Kubernetes)Extensive use of Helm for Kubernetes package management Experience with Harness for CI/CD and deployment automation Knowledge of Kubernetes secrets management (Secrets, Vault)Experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing for distributed systems Familiarity with API Gateways, service discovery, and distributed tracing (preferred)Collaboration and leadership across multiple teams Strong communication and stakeholder management Technical depth paired with business acumen Java Spring Framework / Spring Boot / Spring Cloud Microservices architecture
