Supervisor: HVAC
Job Title: Supervisor - HVAC FLSA: Nonexempt
Reports to: Maintenance Leadership Team Pay Grade: Auxiliary 9 Dept./School: Maintenance Department Calendar Days: 256 Revised: 1.15.2026 Primary Purpose: The HVAC Supervisor provides on-site leadership for districtwide HVAC maintenance and repair, ensuring systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with district standards while supporting the Director of Maintenance to maintain optimal performance and uninterrupted campus operations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma from an accredited high school or GEDTrade experience required
  • Current EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification required.
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor License preferred.
  • Building Automation Systems certification or vendor-specific training (e.g., Siemens, Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Unify, Automated Logic) is highly desirableOSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Safety Certification preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Eligible for coverage under the district's vehicle insurance program
  • Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
  • Knowledge of state and local building codesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to measure and perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work independently

  • ExperienceMinimum five (5) years of experience in the HVAC field required
  • Major Responsibilities and DutiesHVAC Operations & Maintenance
  • Assign, schedule, and supervise HVAC and BAS staff in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and control systems
  • Oversee work completion to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with district standards; review and prioritize maintenance work orders
  • SupervisionSupervise installation, modification, and expansion of HVAC systems, controls, ductwork, piping, and wiring according to codes, engineering drawings, and manufacturer specifications
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC and BAS equipment, including filters, coils, lubrication, and sensors
  • InspectionConduct routine inspections of HVAC and BAS systems to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential problems
  • Inspect completed repairs and installations for quality, accuracy, and compliance; monitor contractor performance to ensure adherence to district standards
  • SafetyProvide training and guidance to staff on safe work practices, proper use of tools and equipment, and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and district safety policies
  • Enforce safety procedures including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined space entry, and fall protection; identify unsafe conditions and secure mechanical rooms
  • Inventory and Equipment
  • Monitor and maintain tools, materials, and equipment; conduct inventories, maintain accurate records, and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; recommend replacements as needed
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Manage BAS operation, programming, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability
  • Coordinate with Energy Management to monitor alarms, trends, and schedules; identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings
  • Provide technical training to HVAC staff on BAS software, control logic, and alarm response
  • Other Duties
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies, system failures, and climate control issues
  • Assist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluating maintenance personnel
  • Maintain accurate payroll, attendance, and overtime records
  • Attend job-related training, safety meetings, and professional development
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, administrative guidelines, and Employee Handbook directives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate HVAC and BAS technicians, ensuring accountability, performance, and safety compliance. Promote teamwork, effective communication, and professional standards.
Evaluation The evaluation of the HVAC Supervisor is a responsibility resting with the Executive Director of Maintenance. An evaluation shall be completed in writing at least once during the course of each school year.
