Job Description: Production Material HandlerLocation: Grandville, MI
Reports To:
Production ManagerInterfaces With: Production, Stamping, Fabrication/Welding, Scheduling, Material Handling, Shipping/ReceivingRole PurposeSafely move, stage, and deliver raw materials, components, packaging, dies, finished goods, and other production materials throughout the facilitySupport stamping and fabrication/welding operations by ensuring required materials, components, and packaging are in the right place at the right timeMaintain accurate material identification, required paperwork, and organized raw material, finished goods, and packaging areasSupport efficient production flow by responding to material needs, loading and unloading trucks, and completing assigned work safely and on timeCore AccountabilitiesSafety and Equipment OperationComplete required daily fork truck inspections and safely operate fork trucks and other material-handling equipmentSafely move large and heavy materials, including steel coils and dies, using appropriate equipment and proceduresFollow proper procedures when loading, unloading, and moving materials throughout the facilityIdentify and promptly report equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, damaged material, labeling issues, and other material-handling concernsObtain and maintain required fork truck certificationMaterial Staging and Production SupportReview the production schedule and stage raw materials, components, packaging, and dies for scheduled workDeliver materials to press room and welding teams as needed to keep production running and minimize material-related downtimeRespond to daily production needs and support the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the plantEnsure assigned material-handling work is completed before the end of the shiftMaterial Identification and OrganizationVerify materials are labeled correctly and required paperwork is complete before moving or staging itemsMaintain organized raw material, finished goods, and packaging areasHelp ensure materials, components, and packaging are staged and stored in the correct locations to support production requirementsShipping, Receiving, and Facility SupportLoad and unload trucks using proper proceduresEmpty scrap hoppers and maintain clean work areasSupport general material-handling and housekeeping activities as needed to keep production areas safe and organizedEducation and ExperienceFork truck experience preferredFork truck license or certification preferred, or ability to obtain required certificationStrong attention to detail and organizationDependable and able to work independentlyTeam-oriented and responsive to production needsPhysical RequirementsAbility to safely handle large and heavy materials using appropriate material-handling equipmentAbility to safely operate fork trucks and other material-handling equipment throughout the workdayAbility to work 8-10 hour shifts in a manufacturing environmentTravel RequirementsMinimal travel required for this positionLanguage RequirementsMust be able to read and write in EnglishPersonal Protective EquipmentSafety glasses and hearing protection are required in all manufacturing areasAdditional PPE must be worn as required by the task or work areaWork EnvironmentManufacturing environment with continuous noise and moving equipmentExposure to dust, grease, moisture, fumes, strong odors, chemicals, heated tanks, and varying temperaturesPotential exposure to cuts, burns, and other manufacturing hazards requiring strict adherence to safety proceduresIntermittent exposure to outdoor weather conditionsKey Performance IndicatorsSafe operation of fork trucks and other material-handling equipmentTimely staging and delivery of raw materials, components, packaging, and dies to support production schedules and minimize material-related downtimeAccuracy of material labels and required paperwork before materials are moved or stagedOrganization of raw material, finished goods, and packaging areasSafe and timely loading and unloading of trucksResponsiveness to press room and welding production needsCompletion of assigned work before the end of the shiftWork area cleanliness and timely emptying of scrap hoppersMaintenance of required fork truck certificationYou should be proficient in: Continuous ImprovementShipping/ReceivingMaterial Handler ExperienceLoading and Unloading VehiclesForklift LicensedMachines & technologies you'll use: Warehouse Management SoftwareMaterial Handling SystemsRF Scanner (Zebra) Forklifts
