HVAC Technician Under general supervision is responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting computer controlled heating and air-conditioning. Develops preventive maintenance schedules and performs the calibration and repair of heating and air conditioning controls and equipment. Exercises technical supervision over assigned staff and may take part in the training of staff. Work Location 10223 John Saunders, San Antonio, Texas 78216 Work Hours 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday (Work days & hours are subject to change); Work hours may also include a rotation to 2nd and 3rd shifts. Work days may also include a schedule that works Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs, including on air conditioning and heating units.
Operates HVAC maintenance equipment to perform maintenance on major equipment such as chillers and boilers, which involves frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Provides technical training and advice to assigned staff.
Makes minor Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system modifications, and cost estimates.
Performs preventative maintenance on room size air conditioning and heating units.
Maintains and troubleshoots HVAC computer control system. Monitors central plant equipment.
Rebuilds, adjusts, and calibrates temperature control devices.
Maintains a daily log of time and materials used in HVAC operations.
Responds to calls for emergency or problem situations.
Prepares reports on completed work.
Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.
Monitors central plant equipment and troubleshoots problems with equipment.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).Four (4) years of experience maintaining and repairing heating and air conditioning equipment.
Must possess a Class "B" Air Conditioning/Refrigeration license from the State of Texas.
Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Must successfully pass all background investigations.
Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.
Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment and a Criminal History Records Check upon employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Specialty Certifications in Service or Installation (e.g., AC, Air Distribution, Heat Pumps, or Gas Furnaces).EPA Universal Certification (strongly preferred at this level).OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
State or local Journeyman HVAC/R License.
Low Voltage Electrical License or specific state HVAC electrical endorsements.3 to 5+ years of verifiable hands-on HVAC field service and repair experience.
Chiller Certification or experience.
Deep knowledge of advanced systems, such as Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF/VRV), multi-stage inverter systems, or modulating gas furnaces.
Applicant Information:
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of HVAC control equipment.
Knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, and manual control HVAC controls.
Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures and techniques for chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and pumps.
Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.
Knowledge of HVAC equipment installation, repair and maintenance procedures, practices, and techniques.
Ability to perform the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC systems.
Ability to interpret charts, gauges, and recording equipment and electrical, temperature and humidity meters.
Ability to install and maintain pneumatic controls.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and pneumatic control systems.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to train and evaluate staff.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors, with some exposure to temperature extremes, dust, dirt, grease, and loud noises.
