Controller (Financial Services)
Location: Miami, FL (Once established and able to independently run the accounting function and close process, there will be hybrid flexibility)
Compensation: $200,000–$215,000 base + bonus Steven Douglas has been exclusively selected by a fast-growing, profitable financial services company in Miami to identify its next Controller. This is a hands-on leadership position reporting directly to senior finance leadership with responsibility for the accounting and financial reporting function. IMPORTANT: Lending Industry Experience Is Required Candidates must have experience working for, or auditing, a: Bank Credit union Specialty lender Private credit platform Commercial finance company Other balance-sheet lending organization Candidates should understand the accounting associated with loans and other interest-bearing financial assets held on a company's balance sheet. We will consider candidates coming directly from public accounting with relevant financial services clients, candidates currently working within the lending industry, or a combination of both. CPA is preferred, but not required.
The Opportunity: This is broader than a traditional close-and-report Controller position. The Controller will have exposure to sophisticated lending and financing structures, multiple legal entities and continued expansion of the company's accounting infrastructure. The environment is entrepreneurial and fast-moving, making this an attractive opportunity for someone who wants meaningful responsibility and the ability to influence processes rather than operate within a highly layered organization.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the accounting and financial reporting function Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close Oversee general ledger, revenue recognition, loan accounting and expense management Prepare and review financial statements Manage financial reporting to external financing partners Oversee consolidation and intercompany accounting across multiple entities Account for loan originations, repayments, interest accruals and servicing-related activity Reconcile loan activity with external counterparties and internal systems Support accounting for financing entities and other legal structures Oversee treasury, liquidity and cash management Monitor compliance with applicable financial covenants Manage relationships with external auditors and tax providers Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAPSupport regulatory and other required financial reporting Improve accounting systems, processes and internal controls Help build scalable accounting infrastructure as the company continues to grow Support accounting requirements associated with new financing structures and strategic initiatives Lead and develop the accounting team
Required Experience: Financial services and lending experience Experience with a bank, credit union, specialty lender, private credit platform or similar balance-sheet lender Strong understanding of loan accounting and interest-bearing financial assets 7+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong financial reporting and month-end close experience Experience working in a multi-entity environment Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization We Will Consider Candidates coming directly from public accounting who have significant audit experience with banks, credit unions, lenders, private credit companies or similar financial institutions. We will also consider candidates coming directly from industry or individuals with a combination of public accounting and financial services experience.
