Consilio's direct hire recruiting team is working with a highly regarded boutique firm that is seeking to hire an attorney to join their team. This position is not with Consilio directly; it is a direct hire, permanent opportunity with the law firm. Customs & International Trade Attorney (3+ Years Experience)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Customs & International Trade Attorney with a minimum of three (3) years of directly relevant experience to join our growing international trade practice. This is a "hit-the-ground-running" role for an attorney who can independently manage client matters from day one, provide practical legal advice, and handle complex customs compliance issues with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have significant experience counseling clients on a broad range of U.S. customs matters, conducting compliance reviews, responding to government inquiries, and representing clients during customs audits and administrative proceedings.
Key Responsibilities: Advise clients on all aspects of U.S. Customs law and compliance, including:
- Customs valuationTariff classificationCountry of origin determinations
- Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification and compliance
- Conduct internal customs compliance audits and risk assessments.
- Assist clients with preparation for and participation in U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) audits, reviews, and investigations.
- Prepare and submit customs ruling requests to CBP.Draft and file customs protests and related administrative appeals.
- Prepare comprehensive responses to CBP Forms CF28 (Requests for Information) and CF29 (Notices of Action).Analyze regulatory developments and communicate practical business implications to clients.
- Manage client relationships and provide strategic counseling on customs and trade compliance matters.
- Collaborate with colleagues across international trade practice areas on complex client matters.
Required Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
Minimum of 3 years of law firm experience focused on Customs and International Trade law.
Demonstrated experience advising clients on:
- Customs valuationTariff classificationCountry of origin analysis
- Free Trade Agreements
- Experience conducting internal customs compliance audits.
- Experience participating in and preparing clients for CBP audits.
- Experience preparing ruling requests, protests, and responses to CF28s and CF29s.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to independently manage matters and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Excellent client service and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience litigating or practicing before the U.S. Court of International Trade. Experience advising on trade remedies.
