About the role
Position Type:
Hybrid (Approx. 2x/week in NYC area office) / Remote Considered Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Media Director Opportunity We are a premier, established B2B media brand with decades of trusted authority in corporate real estate, site selection, and economic development. We are seeking a Senior Editor to lead our content program, deepen our source network, and serve as a visible editorial voice in the market. In this role, you will help execute a forward-looking content strategy that respects the brand’s legacy while expanding its reach across print, digital, live events, newsletters, podcasts, and other multimedia formats. This position is for a high-utility editor who loves the craft of journalism, original reporting, and strategic storytelling. The role is centered on content creation and source development: identifying strong editorial opportunities, building relationships with industry experts, conducting interviews, and producing authoritative work that serves a senior B2B audience. You will be supported by an internal team that helps keep production and execution moving, so your primary focus can remain on sourcing, shaping, and creating high-value editorial content. This is a hands-on role in a lean, entrepreneurial media environment: the right candidate should be energized by both big-picture editorial opportunity and the practical work of moving high-quality content from idea to publication. The ideal candidate is a strong reporter and editor with the curiosity to learn a specialized market, the confidence to develop executive-level sources, and the discipline to turn interviews, research, events, and industry trends into clear editorial products across channels. Reporting, Strategy & Collaboration Collaborative Strategy & Leadership Alignment: Partner with the Media Director and organization principals to shape editorial strategy, brand direction, and audience growth. Within that collaborative framework, own the day-to-day editorial roadmap, source development, content quality, and execution of the publication’s core editorial products. Design Ecosystem Coordination: Coordinate with internal and external design resources to ensure that print, digital, and multimedia content are presented with strong visual clarity and brand consistency. Industry Visibility: Represent the publication in the market, including at selected PR initiatives, industry panels, interviews, and brand events.
Core Responsibilities:
Original Content Generation: Research, report, and write compelling, high-value editorial content, including regular Editor’s Notes, recurring magazine departments, interview-driven pieces, and research-based annual features that reinforce the publication’s authority. Event-Driven Content Generation: Use the publication’s live events as an important reporting forum: meet industry leaders, develop sources, conduct interviews, identify emerging themes, and translate those insights into strong editorial coverage. Content Lifecycle: Own the conception, sourcing, development, and quality control of premium print and digital content packages, from initial idea through final editorial review. Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Work closely with production and digital colleagues to keep editorial calendars, print traffic, CMS workflows, and final execution aligned across the publication’s content channels. Multimedia Strategy: Shape editorial planning and messaging for newsletters, podcasts, audio interviews, video features, and other multimedia extensions, with emphasis on ideas, sourcing, structure, and audience value rather than technical production. Freelance Cultivation: Identify, recruit, brief, and manage a high-quality bench of freelance journalists and expert contributors who can strengthen the publication’s coverage and source network. Copy Editing: Provide first-pass editing and quality control across editorial copy, with the ability to coordinate freelance copy-editing support as the publication’s needs evolve.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include strong editorial experience — whether as an editor, reporter, contributor manager, or content lead — in B2B media, trade journalism, business journalism, economic development, commercial real estate, manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, or a related field; a strong portfolio of reported work; experience assigning or editing contributors; comfort interviewing executives and subject-matter experts; and the ability to manage multiple print and digital deadlines with sound editorial judgment. Travel & Presence
Structured Travel:
Travel approximately five times per year to attend and represent the publication at core brand events. PR Flexibility: Remain available for occasional, purposeful travel tied to high-value public relations, reporting, or industry-engagement opportunities. Our Mindset on Technology & AIWe actively use modern technology and AI tools to improve workflows, expand research capacity, support brainstorming, and reduce administrative friction. We are looking for an editor who is curious about these tools and able to use them thoughtfully while maintaining strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and accountability. Technical Proficiency & Skills Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Creative Cloud workflows, with enough production literacy to collaborate effectively with design teams.
