About the role

Payroll Specialist We're partnering with a growing energy company in the North Houston area that's looking to add a Payroll Specialist to its Accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys managing full-cycle payroll, resolving payroll discrepancies, and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time in a fast-paced environment. If you're detail-oriented, highly organized, and have strong experience in payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, and reconciliations, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Do:
  • Manage the full-cycle payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing
  • Review and verify employee timekeeping records, hours worked, overtime, and paid time off
  • Process new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, and payroll adjustments
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee pay inquiries
  • Review payroll registers and reports to ensure accuracy before payroll submission
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, tax liabilities, benefits deductions, and general ledger entries
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
  • Assist with quarterly payroll tax filings, annual reporting, and W-2 preparation
  • Coordinate with Human Resources and Accounting regarding employee changes and payroll matters
  • Respond to employee questions regarding paychecks, deductions, and tax withholdings
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and confidential employee information
  • Assist with payroll audits, month-end close, and year-end reporting
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and efficiency
What We're Looking For:
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll processing or payroll administration experience
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle payroll processes and payroll tax compliance
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and general ledger entries
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Experience handling payroll adjustments, deductions, overtime, and employee changes
  • Multi-state payroll experience is a plus
  • Knowledge with ADP Workforce NowProficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard business applications
  • Experience with payroll and accounting software; ERP experience is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
