K-12 Academic Tutor and Mentor

As an Academic Tutor and Mentor at City Year, you will serve in public schools to provide targeted academic tutoring, in-class support, and consistent mentoring to help students succeed. Working within the Education, Training & E-Learning team, you’ll lead small-group and one-on-one sessions, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to reinforce classroom learning. You’ll model positive behavior, build strong relationships, and foster an inclusive, growth-focused environment. Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects Support classroom instruction in partnership with teachers Mentor students to build social-emotional skills and positive habits Monitor and document student progress and attendance Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff about student needs Facilitate homework help and enrichment activities Help create an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging classroom climate Participate in City Year training, coaching, and professional development Engage families and caregivers as appropriate to support student success Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven school-based team Academic tutoring in math and literacy Classroom support and instruction reinforcement Student progress monitoring and data tracking Behavior management and positive reinforcement Lesson and activity planning Time management and organization Written and verbal communication Basic educational technology and e-learning tools Cultural competency and working with diverse populations Collaboration with educators and school staff Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Bachelor’s degree preferred Previous tutoring or mentoring experience Experience working with K-12 students Background check clearance Training in youth development (preferred) Coursework in education or related field (preferred)
